Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics at Shri Gangaram Medical College & Hospital is committed to the holistic health and development of children, from neonates to adolescents. It serves as a crucial pillar in medical education, helping students understand the complexities of pediatric growth, disease presentation, and age-specific treatment strategies.
The department offers specialized training in general pediatrics, neonatology, pediatric emergencies, immunization, nutrition, and developmental assessment. Students are posted in pediatric OPDs, inpatient wards, Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), and Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs), where they actively participate in patient evaluation, vaccination, and treatment under expert guidance.
Practical exposure includes newborn resuscitation, growth monitoring, vaccination techniques, common pediatric illness management, and counseling parents on child care. Students are trained to assess nutritional status, developmental milestones, and behavioral aspects of child health.
The department runs specialty clinics such as High-Risk Neonatal Follow-up, Pediatric Asthma, Pediatric Neurology, and Adolescent Health, offering students exposure to sub-specialty pediatric care. Bedside teaching, case presentations, role-playing, and simulated pediatric scenarios ensure effective learning and patient-centered practice.
Faculty members are actively involved in research on malnutrition, infectious diseases, immunization practices, and genetic disorders. Students are encouraged to take part in community pediatric surveys, vaccination drives, and school health programs.
The Department of Pediatrics aims to create compassionate, skilled, and knowledgeable doctors who understand the special needs of children and can deliver care with sensitivity and expertise.
