Department of General Medicine
The Department of General Medicine at Shri Gangaram Medical College & Hospital is one of the most dynamic and patient-centered departments, serving as a core pillar of clinical training for undergraduate and postgraduate students. It offers a comprehensive understanding of adult internal medicine, equipping students to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
The department emphasizes clinical bedside teaching, patient interaction, and real-world diagnostic decision-making. Students are trained in history-taking, physical examination, and case documentation. They learn to correlate clinical findings with laboratory investigations, imaging studies, and therapeutic strategies under close supervision by experienced faculty.
Our medical wards are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including ICU beds, diagnostic equipment, and advanced electronic monitoring systems. Students are posted in outpatient departments (OPDs), inpatient wards, emergency units, and specialty clinics such as diabetology, rheumatology, infectious diseases, and cardiology.
Regular clinical case discussions, morning reports, grand rounds, and interdepartmental meetings keep students actively engaged in clinical reasoning. Emphasis is placed on diagnostic accuracy, evidence-based medicine, rational drug use, and ethical patient care.
The department also focuses on preventive medicine, lifestyle management, and chronic disease monitoring. Students are exposed to managing common conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, tuberculosis, respiratory disorders, and cardiac illnesses.
Our faculty are involved in national and international research projects related to infectious diseases, metabolic disorders, and non-communicable diseases. Students are encouraged to participate in clinical audits, publications, and research presentations.
By the end of the program, students develop strong diagnostic and clinical management skills, communication proficiency, and a patient-first approach. The Department of General Medicine is committed to nurturing competent, ethical, and compassionate physicians who are ready to meet the healthcare challenges of today and tomorrow.
