Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Shri Gangaram Medical College & Hospital plays a pivotal role in shaping doctors to manage women’s health across all stages of life. From adolescent care and reproductive health to prenatal care, labor management, and menopausal health, the department offers comprehensive training in both obstetric and gynecological care.
Our department operates a fully functional maternity ward, labor room, prenatal diagnostic unit, gynecological OT, and family planning clinic. Students gain firsthand exposure to antenatal care, intrapartum monitoring, safe delivery techniques, and management of obstetric emergencies such as eclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, and obstructed labor.
In gynecology, students are trained in menstrual disorders, infertility, endometriosis, fibroids, prolapse, pelvic infections, and gynecological malignancies. They assist in outpatient care, diagnostic procedures, minor surgeries, and learn the indications and techniques of major operations.
The department emphasizes clinical acumen, surgical dexterity, patient empathy, and effective counseling skills. Teaching is delivered through lectures, skill-based training, ward postings, case presentations, simulation-based sessions, and role-playing exercises for communication.
Our labor room is equipped with fetal monitors, resuscitation stations, and essential obstetric care equipment. We also run antenatal classes, awareness campaigns, and community outreach programs focusing on maternal health, contraception, adolescent education, and cervical cancer screening.
Faculty members are involved in research on high-risk pregnancy, preterm birth, fetal anomalies, and maternal nutrition. Students are encouraged to participate in ICMR projects, poster presentations, and clinical trials.
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology aims to train future doctors with a balance of clinical skill, compassion, and academic excellence to ensure safe motherhood and quality women’s health services for all.
